Ethereal with a Touch of Glamour: Fall 2013 Anne Bowen Wedding Dresses

Fall 2013 wedding dress Anne Bowen bridal gowns Anila

Before we get into today's inspiration… we would like to mention that our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by Hurricane Sandy. To do your part and help with the disaster relief efforts, you can make a financial donation at RedCross.org.

It's been all about dresses the past few weeks (thanks to New York bridal market), as we've been dissecting each new designer collection and spotlighting our favorite 2013 wedding gowns and trends. And while, personally, I could talk bridal fashion 'til the cows come home, I'm thinking you could use a little break from all the barely there sheer, frothy tulle, lovely lace, show-stopping silhouettes, etc. talk… Am I right? Good! Because today we deliver!

I had the pleasure of attending Anne Bowen's Fall 2013 runway presentation hosted at Toshi's Penthouse in the Flatiron Hotel. The venue was breathtaking (perfect for sophisticated city I Do's), with amazing views of the Big Apple's famous skyline. With a glass of champagne in hand (and my first Real Housewives of New York spotting under my belt- Aviva Drescher was definitely in the building!), I grabbed an outdoor seat on the terrace, and waited for the show to start.

And what a show it was! Bowen's delicate dresses moved beautifully in the wind, embodying the kind of modern glamour that speaks to romantic yet daring brides who adore body conscious silhouettes.

Now that the scene is set (and the gowns clearly speak for themselves), let's get into something a bit more fun, shall we? I met with Anne Bowen a few days after her runway show, and was blown away by her sweet, down-to-earth, warm, and open personality. We ended up chatting for hours, and I loved every minute. Here are 5 things I learned about this amazing designer:

1 – She credits Mark Ingram with helping her make the move from red carpet to bridal, and laughed telling me that Mark once said… If Angel Sanchez and Georgio Armani had a baby, it would be Anne Bowen. Mark has also called Anne the 'Georgio Armani of bridal'.

2 – If she wasn't a designer… she would be making movies! Anne revels in creating the vision and direction for each editorial shoot featuring her gowns (just watch the video below to be wowed by her talent), and thinks that in a past life, she was a movie director.

3 – Anne Hathaway almost wore Anne Bowen down her white aisle

4 – And you might see Kate Middleton donning an Anne Bowen creation soon, as Anne's gorgeous gowns recently made their way across the pond and into the Duchess's dressing room.

5 – Brides don't want to wear pearls… Anne showed me a wedding dress from a past season that was encrusted in pearls. I was instantly obsessed, and shocked to learn that this unbelievebly beautiful number wasn't a big hit with brides. According to Bowen, “Brides don't want to wear pearls on their wedding gowns. They want diamonds (who doesn't?) and crystals! Brides do like jewelry and accessories (veils, shoes, clutches) adorned with pearls, but for the dress, it's a different story.”

So brideys… what do you think? Are you an Anne fan just like me? Which 2013 dresses do you adore?

Designer Dossier: Oscar de la Renta

For just 1 minute, forget that&nbspOscar de la Renta&nbsphas an empire that rivals&nbspa small country,&nbspwas one of Jacqueline Kennedy&#39s personal courtiers, and continues to&nbspinspire the style world with each and every collection he brings to the table.

As an alternative, lets&nbspdiscuss Oscar&#39s not so humble beginnings and substantial skilled pedigree.&nbspBorn and raised in Santo Domingo, The Dominican Republic, De la Renta counted&nbspdiplomats, poets, and scholars as members of his family members, an&nbspupbringing that&nbsphelped develop his robust small business acumen.

Nevertheless, Oscar&#39s educational background wasn&#39t&nbsppurely academic. Vogue.com&nbspexplains that De la Renta &quothas usually cited the tropical vegetation and the vibrant colour palettes of the island as inspiration for his striking styles.&quot At the tender age of 18, Oscar left his native town to pursue art&nbspat The Academy of San Fernando in Madrid. Soon right after, the young artist discovered his passion for style and&nbspsketching, which would at some point land him the covetable and life- transforming apprenticeship with Crist&oacutebal Balenciaga, Spain&#39s most revered couturier at the&nbsptime.

But that was only the starting of De la Renta&#39s impressive resume. De la Renta also worked at Lanvin as couture assistant and later as a designer at Elizabeth Arden&nbsp(a spot that mentor and editor-in-chief of&nbspVogue,&nbspDiana Vreeland&nbsphelped him secure ),&nbspwhere he produced haute-couture gowns for the label&#39s custom- produced clothes.&nbsp

And just like every little thing else Vreeland&nbsptouches,&nbspOscar&#39s stint at Elizabeth Arden would be life changing.&nbspAs a outcome of the&nbspvaluable contacts and knowledge Oscar accrued through at the brand,&nbspthe Oscar de la Renta label&nbspwas&nbsplaunched. What started out as a ready -to- put on line for females is now a worldwide empire that counts a home line,&nbspa perfume line, an accessory&nbspline, and of program his&nbspbridal collection, which&nbspelevated the brand&#39s good results and name&nbspto&nbspa international &nbsplevel.&nbspLaunched in 2006, Oscar de la Renta&#39s Bridal collection changed the program of bridalwear in the fashion domain as effectively as&nbspin rest of the planet.&nbspDiscussing his bridal collection with Vogue.com, De la Renta mentioned, &quotMy styles are known for their lovely ornamentation, facts, fabrics, and embroideries – which are by no means a lot more significant than on a wedding dress.&quot&nbsp

So just how does an iconic brand like Oscar de la Renta stay relevant in a culture where style trends die as rapidly as they breed? For starters, the brand has reached out to younger generations by&nbsprestyling their image both figuratively and digitally, upgrading their classic styles with a present day flair, and entering the social media sphere.&nbspToday&nbspOscar de la Renta is a single of the largest &nbspbrands across social platforms like&nbspFacebook, Tumblr,&nbspand Twitter.&nbspErika Bearman, Oscar de la Renta&rsquos social media personality and senior vice president of advertising and communications, has attracted practically 160,000 followers on Twitter below her OscarPRGirl moniker. In addition to reaching a younger demographic, the brand&#39s social activities have helped boost sales.

For his Spring 2013 collection, Mr. De la Renta continued to show his ability to evolve as a designer even though keeping the integrity of his line. With edgier garments, De la Renta has combined a youthful attitude with the label&#39s established elegance, developing a collection that challenged and diversified that way we view high end styles, classic silhouettes, and, of course,&nbspeveningwear.

Youngsters at Weddings: Organizing Makes Best

creative wedding ideas keeping kids entertained at the reception

So, I&rsquom coming to you right now from the Midwest, narrowly escaping the wrath of Hurricane Sandy hitting the East coast as we speak, and I comprehend that the final time I was right here was for a wedding. And it was a fantastic wedding! Possibly one particular of the greatest bands I have ever seen (like&hellip seriously awes!), remarkable food and kickass cocktails created to order by a mixologist. But&hellip due to the fact I just can&rsquot aid myself, I noticed a couple of tiny facts dampening the general expertise &hellip I don&rsquot know their names, but they had been under 4 years old. Operating for their small lives as if the developing was collapsing and we required to evacuate, right away !

That got me considering about all of the clever (if I do say so myself) ideas for young children attending weddings that I have supplied and successfully executed for my bridey clients. And mainly because it&rsquos crucial for you to respect your guests and make positive they (and you!) have a wonderful time, I thought I would share them with you.

  1. Employ entertainment for the children and spot them in a room close by or where the cocktail reception takes spot. It&rsquos brief money, and it&rsquos a savior! Balloon makers, guitar players, face painters, etc. will distract the kids and allow them to have enjoyable so that everybody else can also !
  2. As extended as you are hiring entertainment, go the added mile and hire a couple of babysitters. Most every single city has a service that gives pre-screened, background-checked sitters. So locate them, and use them! Their parents and your guests will love you for considering of anything !
  3. Get inventive with the kids &rsquos tables. Animal balloon centerpieces or lollipop flowers&hellip Cupcake or cookie decorating (yes, at the table)&hellip Make the children WANT to sit nevertheless due to the fact they will have fun with the new and interesting things supplied to them.
  4. (This a single is optional) Though all of the adults are enjoying dinner, the dance floor is empty and no one has to spend interest to toasts or speeches, have the band or DJ invite the children up for their really own particular dance time. Not only will they adore it, but they will really feel specific too.
  5. Offer a favor that will have the young children anxious to leave so that they can go house (or back to their hotel space ) and play with it. Wrap it up with directions stating that they are not allowed to open it at the wedding! (But, make positive it&rsquos a excellent one if you&rsquore making large promises!)

Brideys, I know that some of you don&rsquot want youngsters at your wedding, and are pressured to invite them, so hopefully these tips will make them a lot more invisible to you and your guests. Got it?

The-morning-after-the-night-before-Nicole-Scherzinger-heads-to-Amy-Childs-salon-in-Essex

Getting been out two nights on the trot ( first &nbspat the Pride of Britain Awards&nbspthen the&nbspCosmopolitan Ultimate Woman of the year do) we can recognize why Nicole Scherzinger would want some pampering, although really why she necessary to schlep down to Amy Childs&rsquo salon in Essex to do that is beyond us.

But hark, what&rsquos this? Ah yes, Rylan Clark is by her side &ndash we had a feeling this fresh hell had a thing to do with him. He&rsquos taken his mentor back to his hometown to meet his pal Amy, who just so takes place to be undertaking a promo day in shop. How hassle-free.

It goes without having saying that Rylan is thoroughly enjoying his time in the limelight at the moment, however he doesn&rsquot think his success on X Factor will last. Actually, even he knows that if he wins the show the apocalypse will most likely soon adhere to.

Speaking at the Cosmo awards yesterday he said :

“I do not reckon I can win in the slightest. If I were to win this society would sink below water – but weirder factors have happened.&rdquo

Yes they have. We&rsquore struggling to feel what, but they have.

Junk Food Hurts Your Arteries, But Wholesome Meal Could Support

WEDNESDAY, Oct. 31 (HealthDay News) — Just about every junk-food meal you consume damages your arteries, although Mediterranean- variety meals do no harm — and may well even have a valuable impact, according to a new study.

Junk-food meals are composed mainly of damaging saturated fat, even though Mediterranean-style meals are wealthy in great fats such as mono- and polyunsaturated fatty acids, according to the researchers from the Montreal Heart Institute, which is affiliated with the University of Montreal.

The study included 28 nonsmoking men who ate a Mediterranean-style meal 1st and then a junk-food meal a week later. The Mediterranean meal integrated salmon, almonds and vegetables cooked in olive oil. The junk-food meal included a sandwich made with sausage, egg and cheese, along with three hash browns.

The researchers assessed how the meals affected the inner lining (endothelium) of the blood vessels. Endothelial function, which determines how well blood vessels dilate (or open), is closely linked to the long – term threat of developing heart disease.

Soon after consuming the junk-food meal, the participants’ arteries dilated 24 percent much less than they did when they hadn’t eaten. Soon after the Mediterranean meal, the participants’ arteries dilated normally and maintained excellent blood flow, the investigators identified.

The researchers also measured the participants’ triglyceride levels. Triglycerides are a sort of fat in the blood that can lead to narrowing of the arteries. The study authors located that individuals with greater blood triglyceride levels seemed to benefit much more from the Mediterranean meal. Their arteries responded greater to the meal than the arteries of individuals with low triglyceride levels.

“We believe that a Mediterranean- form diet regime could be specifically useful for people with high triglyceride levels… precisely simply because it could aid preserve arteries wholesome,” study leader Dr. Anil Nigam, director of analysis at the Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation Center at Montreal Heart Institute, said in a university news release.

The study was scheduled for presentation Tuesday at the Canadian Cardiovascular Congress in Toronto. The information and conclusions of study presented at medical meetings must be viewed as preliminary until published in a peer-reviewed journal.
