Before we get into today's inspiration… we would like to mention that our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by Hurricane Sandy. To do your part and help with the disaster relief efforts, you can make a financial donation at RedCross.org.
It's been all about dresses the past few weeks (thanks to New York bridal market), as we've been dissecting each new designer collection and spotlighting our favorite 2013 wedding gowns and trends. And while, personally, I could talk bridal fashion 'til the cows come home, I'm thinking you could use a little break from all the barely there sheer, frothy tulle, lovely lace, show-stopping silhouettes, etc. talk… Am I right? Good! Because today we deliver!
I had the pleasure of attending Anne Bowen's Fall 2013 runway presentation hosted at Toshi's Penthouse in the Flatiron Hotel. The venue was breathtaking (perfect for sophisticated city I Do's), with amazing views of the Big Apple's famous skyline. With a glass of champagne in hand (and my first Real Housewives of New York spotting under my belt- Aviva Drescher was definitely in the building!), I grabbed an outdoor seat on the terrace, and waited for the show to start.
And what a show it was! Bowen's delicate dresses moved beautifully in the wind, embodying the kind of modern glamour that speaks to romantic yet daring brides who adore body conscious silhouettes.
Now that the scene is set (and the gowns clearly speak for themselves), let's get into something a bit more fun, shall we? I met with Anne Bowen a few days after her runway show, and was blown away by her sweet, down-to-earth, warm, and open personality. We ended up chatting for hours, and I loved every minute. Here are 5 things I learned about this amazing designer:
1 – She credits Mark Ingram with helping her make the move from red carpet to bridal, and laughed telling me that Mark once said… If Angel Sanchez and Georgio Armani had a baby, it would be Anne Bowen. Mark has also called Anne the 'Georgio Armani of bridal'.
2 – If she wasn't a designer… she would be making movies! Anne revels in creating the vision and direction for each editorial shoot featuring her gowns (just watch the video below to be wowed by her talent), and thinks that in a past life, she was a movie director.
3 – Anne Hathaway almost wore Anne Bowen down her white aisle…
4 – And you might see Kate Middleton donning an Anne Bowen creation soon, as Anne's gorgeous gowns recently made their way across the pond and into the Duchess's dressing room.
5 – Brides don't want to wear pearls… Anne showed me a wedding dress from a past season that was encrusted in pearls. I was instantly obsessed, and shocked to learn that this unbelievebly beautiful number wasn't a big hit with brides. According to Bowen, “Brides don't want to wear pearls on their wedding gowns. They want diamonds (who doesn't?) and crystals! Brides do like jewelry and accessories (veils, shoes, clutches) adorned with pearls, but for the dress, it's a different story.”
So brideys… what do you think? Are you an Anne fan just like me? Which 2013 dresses do you adore?
