Toshiba 1TB HDD is revealed in standard size of 2.5-inch

A 9.5mm thick notebook hard drive with a capacity of 1TB was revealed by Toshiba as its first standard size 2.5-inch. The HDD known as MQ01ABD series is designed with low power consumption and low noise. The press release announces that the drive will consume only 0.55watts at idle and produce maximum at 24dB when used. By reducing the platters each to two 500GB, the standard size meets the possibility. Joel Hagberg, VP of product marketing, stated that the Toshiba MQ01ABD series provides not only the capacity and performance required by notebook and PC manufacturers, multimedia professionals, multi-room set-top-box and other power users, but also the benefits of low-power, environmentally friendly drive.

Toshiba finally follows the trail of Western Digital and Samsung by the revealance of the standard size 1TB notebook HDD. The MQ01ABD will have some features including SATA supported up to 3Gb/sec and offers a maximum media transfer rate of 1288.6Mbps, the average seek time is at 12ms and 5400RPM in rotational speed. The range of the capacity will be from 250GB until max of 1TB. Notwithstanding, up to this moment the Toshiba MQ01ABD hard disk drive availability remains unknown. But in between August, the drives will be manufactured in mass production.
