Toshiba Satellite Z830 Notebook, Combination of power and mobility
Japanese manufacturer, Toshiba tries to dive into the subnotebook market with Satellite Z830 ultrabook. It will clash the other ultrabook which already available, such as Acer Aspire S3-951, Asus Zenbook UX31, Asus Zenbook UX21 and Lenovo IdeaPad U300s. Let’s take a look at our review below.
Toshiba Satellite Z830 Notebook Specifications
The silver outer case is made of magnesium aluminum alloy, while the inside has a honeycomb structure which provide the thin form but quite stiff. The keyboard has a good layout and backlight and the touchpad supports multitouch.
Inside the case the users will find some fine hardware, including an Intel Core i5 2467M CPU (1.60 GHz, TurboBoost up to 2.30 GHz) with integrated HD Graphics 3000, 4GB DDR3 RAM (2GB onboard and the rest is inserted) and a 128GB mSATA 300 SSD (Toshiba SG2 Series, 32 nm, THNSNB128GMCJ). For the display, the Satellite Z380 has non-glare 13.3-inch screen with a standard resolution of 1366×768 pixels.
Compared to other ultrabook, like Asus UX31, the Z830 has more practical connectivity options. While the other integrates mini-sized HDMI and VGA ports with no LAN port, the Z830 packs all of them in full size, along with two USB 2.0, one USB 3.0, kensington Lock, Audio jacks (line out and mic) and Card Reader 5in1. WLAN is also integrated for the communication options. Overall it weighs only 1.1kg and has 15.9mm of thickness.
Toshiba Satellite Z830 Notebook Review
With the weight as light as feather, the Toshiba Satellite Z830 ultrabook even lighter than a MacBook Air 13 (1.3kg). Until this moment, it makes the notebook the lightest 13.3-inch notebook ever exist. Despite the thin form, this ultrabook has plenty interfaces compared to other ultrabooks. The battery life is considered long, almost 4.5 hours using WLAN and 9.5 hours in idle. The display is also satisfying thanks to the matte finish and the good brightness. The performance is fairly good with Toshiba’s 128 GB SSD and Intel’s Core i5 2467M (1.6 GHz) combo.
The only flaw on the Toshiba ultrabook is the sound of the fan. It comes from the base plate where the buzzing sound feel annoying.
